2020 is the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. We know the adoption of the 19th Amendment was an enormous step forward, but it did not guarantee voting rights for all women – particularly women of color. Mass NOW has been a partner of Suffrage100MA since its founding 10 years ago and now the coalition has grown to 120 non-profit, non- partisan organizations. A main goal of Suffrage100MA is to commemorate and tell the stories of the remarkable achievements of the suffragists, including the tireless work and essential contributions of women of color, who were often excluded by white women’s suffrage organizations, and whose role in the suffrage movement has been largely overlooked. Stay tuned for more collaborations with our Feminist in Action Grantees Print Ain't Deadabout the suffrage centennial!
This year is the second half of the legislative session in Massachusetts and we are hoping to bring theI AM billto Increase Access to Menstrual Productsto the finish line! A couple of weeks ago we joined YWCA Southeastern and United Neighbors in New Bedford to talk about addressing period poverty. Watch Mass NOW president Sasha Goodfriend talk on Framingham Community Television about how the Massachusetts Legislature is hearing period stories for the first time this legislative session (jump to minute 16:00).
